RACE RESULTS AND PICTURES ON FACEBOOK

The majority of the club's race results and pictures are on our Facebook page. It is much easier to post to FB, along with numerous pictures. Plus, everyone who is a member can post their own pictures and results. For our local events, I will continue to post them here. (Please note that sometimes the race results do not post correctly such as the 2011 Swamp Run. I apologize that they are a " jumbled up mess"
but after numerous attempts at trying to type them on individual lines, I finally gave up.)

If you are on FB but not on the club's FB page, go to Okefenokee Track Club and click "Like".
(I was not able to change the page to Okefenokee Track & Cycling Club
without starting over, but I was able to use our new logo.)

2007 Santa Run Dec. 20

The weather couldn't be more perfect for Okefenokee Track Club's annual Santa Run, with Santa leading the pack on his bike. There was a good turn-out of elves & a couple of reindeer who ran along Plant Avenue waving at passers-by. Ron, Kenny & Denise want to wish each & every one of you a very Merry Christmas & wonderful New Year!

Photo: Front row: Obviously, Santa (Moi Monroe); 2nd row: Tiffany Cocharn, Mary Woodruff, Elizabeth Monroe; 3rd row: Debbie Yawn, Melissa Thomas, Cheryl Monroe, Allen Smith; 4th row: Don Varnadore, Mary Beth Strickland, Ron Crosby; 5th row: Thomas Deane, David Cahill (brand new member), Cameron Davis, Charles Strickland

2007 Jax Bank Half-Marathon, Dec. 16

Debbie Yawn & Mary Beth Strickland completed the Tri-2-Be-Tuff challenge - 3 half marathons in Oct., Nov. & Dec. We are really proud of you ladies for meeting each race head-on while facing another challenge - rain at all 3! Apparently, there were many local runners at the Jax Bank Half-Marathon on Dec. 16 but neither Debbie, Mary Beth nor Allen Smith knew of any of those runners. Hmmm . . . if there are that many runners in Waycross running a half-marathon, maybe they'll show up for our upcoming Swamp Run? Anyway, Allen finished the Jax Half with a time of 2:10:10, Mary Beth 2:16:28 and Debbie 2:21:07.

We crossed it twice on the bike and 4 times on the 2 loop run."

On Saturday, October 6, several members of the track club & Satilla Cycling Club participated in a Metric Century (62 miles) bike ride during the annual 2007 Honeybee Festival. Partially made famous by Ray Steven’s “Shriners Convention”, Hahira, Georgia hosts this event, which drew thousands to partake of the food, shop for arts and crafts, and enjoy the entertainment.

The bike tour took the riders through Lakeland, the City of Murals, which depict the early life in Lanier County. The next stop was to the Nashville, the City of Dogwoods, and beautiful Berrien County. Then to Adel in Cook County, the home of scenic Reed Bingham State Park. And finally, back to Hahira and the welcoming throngs of supporters, including the Illustrious Potentate, Coy, Bubba, and the whole delegation. (by Ron Crosby)

Buffalo Springs IronMan 70.3

Allen Smith competed in the Buffalo Springs IronMan 70.3 in Lubbock, TX on June 24, 2007. Though he was ill before the event started, he still qualified for the IronMan 70.3 World Championship slot in Clearwater, FL in November. Janna signed up for the Tri Raider Sprint that began shortly after the Half IronMan/Ironman 70.3 start. Allen said "she did well." To understand how difficult this IronMan was, he invites you to check out the course at http://www.buffalospringslaketriathlon.com/bslt/elev_map.htm

Run for the Pies 5K, Jacksonville Landing

Janna Summerall & Allen Smith participated in the 29th Annual Run for the Pies 5K in Jacksonville on June 16. This was a popular race among the track club members, mostly because it was a night race. However, an evening race in Florida or even in South Georgia doesn't make it any cooler! It's always hot & muggy! This is Jacksonville's largest and most unique 5K because runners compete for pies, averaging around 1,000 runners. The race is followed by a big post-race party at the Jacksonville Landing. Janna finished in 32 minutes. Allen finished with a time of 26:08. (Photo is from a camera)

Rock and Roll Sprint Triathlon 2007

Allen Smith and Janna Summerall participated in the Rock and Roll Sprint Triathlon in Macon on June 3rd. The event was a 750 meter swim, 15 mile bike & 5K run. Allen finished in 1:47 placing 8 out of 13 in his age group. He wasn't happy with his bike - his chain fell off around mile 10. Janna completed the course with a time of 2:09. She, too, was "bummed out" but admitted she had limited training. She considered the sprint more of a "training" run due to the challenging rolling hills. To get an idea of how tough the course is go to http://www.setupevents.com/files/Rock_N_Roll_Sprint_Web_Binder.pdf.

On April 28, Mary Woodruff competed in the 30th Vidalia Onion Festival 10K. She finished 1st in her age group with a time of 50:00. OTC Ladies Conquer 111th Boston Marathon

On April 16, 2007, Cheryl Monroe & Robin Smith participated in one of the worst weather situations for the Boston Marathon. The 26.2 mile course was flooded by the 24-hour rains that preceded the event. Though they bagged their feet & even changed shoes at the start, they were still pretty soaked. Despite the cold temps of 45-degrees, along with intermittent rain (after the start) & strong (50-mph) "in-your-face gusts," quoted by Robin, they endured to the end with no regrets. Cheryl completed her 2nd Boston with a time of 3 hrs. 56 min. 41 sec., the same exact time she finished when she ran Boston in 2000. Robin, close behind, finished her very 1st Boston Marathon with a time of 4:01:50. All of the members of the Okefenokee Track Club would like to congratulate you both for a very memorable Boston Marathon!
